1. Introduction
In order to achieve its objective of development and quality, Theodora Foundation has created a specific training structure for its needs. The Foundation holds total control but works in association with acknowledged training-partners and particularly those that are appreciated in the medical world.
Within the framework of its expansion abroad, it wishes to establish quality, privileged and exclusive relations with acknowledged nursing schools in each country where a foundation is established.
The training module is divided into two parts. The first consists in choosing and training new Clown Doctors and the second involves the continuous training of the artists that are officially appointed and commissioned by the Foundation.
The training of the new Clown Doctors
This training is aimed at providing the artists chosen by the Theodora Foundation with the essential knowledge for their work in hospitals. The selection phase itself (questionnaire and interview) is followed by a theoretical and practical phase, which is organized into 4 four-day modules. The third phase of the training module consists of four visits to the hospital to observe and then a further twelve visits as a trainee Clown Doctor. Over this last period, the trainee artist works under the supervision of a senior Clown Doctor. The way of dividing the 16 days may vary from country to country in terms of the availability of the participants and the contributors.
Each stage is assessed which allows the Theodora Foundations board to finish selecting the artists that are suitable in taking part in carrying out its project.
The continuous training of the Clown-Doctors
Prior to be contracted, the artists commissioned by the Theodora Foundation all receive a thorough training, which is reinforced throughout their work for the Foundation.
Twice a year, the team as a whole therefore meets to take part in sessions on a range of artistic, nursing, and medical subjects. The Clown Doctors have to take part in this course.
